Two chicken strips, a chicken bake, a hot dog and soda, two 20oz sodas and a bottled water. $21.30 plus $1.55 Connecticut tax.
In the warehouse, $188.24 across 12 items. A grocery run, and we cashed out Costco Casino by buying the iron we’d had our eye on. $26.00 came off in instant savings.
Enfield, #780. Sixth warehouse, and 74.7 miles round trip with nothing else on the list. The food court receipt. Tap it to read every line.
Walking in. Sixth warehouse of six hundred and forty-eight.The other half of the buck fifty. Twenty ounces, refills included, unchanged since 1985.The pumpkin pie, $5.99, on a shelf with almost nothing else left on it. Forgotten at Brookfield, made up for here.A few miles from the Massachusetts line, so the wall is all Patriots. No Giants, no Jets. That noise is the deli’s temperature alarm, and it sounds exactly like a fire alarm. It ran the entire time we were standing there. Nobody looked up. The little white box it is coming out of says TEMP ALARM on the side.Walking out. Three of us in front, the fourth behind the camera. All four have to be there, or it is a trip to Costco and not a stop.
What we found
Doors at 6:56. The food court receipt says 7:04, so we did not browse first. The kiosk does the ordering now. You tap your way through it and a number comes back.Order 176.
The hot case, mid-evening.Chicken bake, $3.99, 840 calories. Rich’s first one in six warehouses. The whole order: a hot dog with mustard for Mathew, chicken strips for Jes and Carter, a chicken bake for Rich, two 20oz sodas and a bottled water. $22.85 with tax.
The chicken bake fits the 3D printed hot dog tray. That was not the design brief.Snowman mugs and color-changing cocoa sets, stacked and waiting, under the live plants.$59.99, less a $15.00 instant rebate, $44.99 at the register, and an asterisk in the corner, which is Costco’s way of saying it is not being reordered. We bought it.
Mathew, behind a steam iron. We bought it. Cashed out.Hexclad this time, not Cutco. No sign of Gordon Ramsay.$399.97, asterisked. A price ending in .97 is usually the end of the road for an item. This is the game we did not play with the iron.
$229.97. Same story, one aisle over.An empty cooler. We have never seen one of these before and we have no idea what is going in it.
Two cakes and a great deal of shelf.Carter, behind a cord reel. Fifty feet, four outlets, and a whole head covered. The whole wall, one team deep. Connecticut splits three ways on this and Enfield does not: the shelf is Patriots from end to end.
Beef dinner franks, which is a different proposition entirely.Starbucks holiday blend, by the pallet.$44.99 less $9.00. Another sign the holidays are coming.Plants, Halloween costumes and a lit Christmas star, all in one frame, on September 4. Which is it?
The board. Still $1.50 for a quarter-pound-plus all-beef hot dog and a 20oz soda with refill, same as 1985. Bottled water, $0.25.Out at dusk, sixth of six hundred and forty-eight.
Mustard only, and this time on purpose. He watched Rich and Carter eat one that way at Milford five days earlier, when Milford had run out of ketchup and it was not a choice. His was. — Mathew
20oz soda with refill, $0.79 Would order again
Lemonade and Sprite in the same cup. Jes calls it a hack, and it raises a question we cannot answer: if lemonade and iced tea is an Arnold Palmer, what is lemonade and Sprite? She is arguing for “a Jes.” — Jes
Chicken bake, $3.99 Would order again
Rich’s first one, six warehouses in. It looked a little toasty, but the flavor was on point, and he says it is more filling than a hot dog. It also fits the tray, which was not the design brief. — Rich
Chicken strips, $6.99 Would order again
Still marked NEW on the board here. Great, and definitely shareable, which we found out by ordering two. — Jes and Carter
Bottled water, $0.25
Rich’s. When they are not buying hot dogs he nearly forgets to buy drinks. It is also the only item on this receipt Connecticut did not tax. — Rich
